# Shifts & Schedule Rules

Vritti allows institutions to model flexible working hours, fixed shifts, rotational schedules, grace periods, and late entry calculations.

## Creating Shift Templates

1. Navigate to **Shifts** in Vritti Console.
2. Click **Create Shift Template**.
3. Fill in the shift configuration:
   * **Shift Name**: (e.g. Standard Morning, Night Shift, Administrative Shift).
   * **Start Time & End Time**: Expected arrival and departure times (e.g. 09:00 to 17:00).
   * **Grace Period (Minutes)**: Buffer period allowed after start time (default: 15 minutes).
   * **Half-Day Threshold**: Minimum hours required to qualify for a full day versus half day.
4. Click **Save Shift**.

## Shift Automation Rules

Vritti automatically evaluates incoming attendance punches against assigned shift rules:

* **On Time**: Punch-in occurs before shift start time + grace period.
* **Late Entry**: Punch-in occurs after shift start time + grace period.
* **Early Exit**: Punch-out occurs prior to designated shift end time.
* **Half Day**: Total duration worked is below 50% of scheduled shift hours.
* **Overtime**: Working hours exceeded past designated shift end time plus overtime threshold.

## Assigning Shifts to Staff

1. Go to **Shifts > Staff Assignment**.
2. Select employees individually or filter by department.
3. Choose the target shift template.
4. Click **Apply Assignment**.
